Required etiquettes for dining in a fancy restaurant

There’s nothing as exciting as going on fancy dates in adulthood. The dressing up, anxiousness and then the fear on how to be. It is safe to say that most of us would like to impress our dates with our table etiquettes. And this is where nervousness and worry comes in.

We were not born with an innate knowledge of the right table etiquettes, hence, it is important that we learn them from either reading or watch others do it. Dinning at a top restaurant or a five star restaurant, as some would call it a very intimidating experience. An experience that comes with you wanting to impress you host and put on an elaborate performance.

There are many questions people eating at fancy restaurants ask themselves, especially first timers. Questions like “how am I supposed to hold my fork?”, “what do I order?”, “where does the napkin go?”, “is my dressing appropriate” (especially ladies), “can I burp?” the truth is its okay to not know the answers to these questions.

While the whole idea of eating in a fancy restaurant can be a tad bit scary, once you get a hang of it; you would be fine. Below are five things that you should do and shouldn’t do when dinning in a fancy restaurant.

Napkin arrangement

It advisable to always wait for the signal from your host to place the napkin on your lap before you place it on your lap. This will go a long way in telling your host that you are well mannered and has respect. In cases of a date, you should wait for the waitress to fold it into a triangle and place it on your table. If the waiter doesn’t show you that courtesy then you do it yourself.

In cases where you have to use the convenience, the napkin goes on your chair. When done eating the napkin goes on the left side of the table. If the napkin falls on the table, hygiene demands that you ask for a new one. Find out more at https://www.fairgroundscoffeehouse.com/is-it-safe-to-give-human-cbd-to-my-dog/

Phone

Trust me, nobody can condone people that operates their phone on the dinner table. I find it extremely rude and annoying. Firstly, do not operate your phone on the table. Secondly, do not receive phone calls as it might distract others. Thirdly and finally, do not keep your phone on the table.

Do, however, leave your phones in your bag or pockets. Keep it far away from your host or date to avoid coming off as rude.

Using cutleries

Always put your cutleries right back on the table after using it. Always start with the cutleries at the farthest. The cutleries are usually arranged according to the number of courses to be offered.

Be polite to the waiter

Do not be rude, as a host or a guest. Order politely. Treat the waiter with respect. Don’t ever think you know more than the waiter. If you have to correct the waiter, do it politely. Politeness has a lot to say about the waiter than it does the waiter.

I know these tips might be a lot to take in. So, start little by little and see yourself being very presentable as fancy restaurants. More details!
